Aspirin for prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Aspirin was discovered in 1897 and marketed initially as an analgesic. Over the years it has been used for other purposes including the prevention of both arterial and venous thrombosis, and as an antiinflammatory drug.More recently there has been interest in the use of aspirin for primary and secondary prevention of cancer. A recent study published in the Lancet,1 showing impressive benefits of low dose aspirin in reducing both cancer mortality and all-cause mortality, received a lot of press publicity. The Daily Mail for example, claimed ‘Aspirin really can beat cancer’.2 No doubt following this publicity many primary care doctors have been asked the question ‘Doctor, should I be taking aspirin?’. In this article we discuss how this latest publication fits in with previous evidence, and the clinical implications of the findings in relation to the primary prevention of cancer.

SECONDARY PREVENTION OF UPPER GASTROINTESTINAL BLEEDING IN LOW DOSE ASPIRIN USERS INFECTED WITHHELICOBACTER PYLORI
ABSTRACT Background: Aspirin even at low dose ( 100 mg) can increase the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is usual to use low dose aspirin for cardiovascular prophylaxis. We hypothesized that Helicobacter pylori eradication is as effective as omeprazole maintenance therapy for secondary prevention of bleeding in those who take low dose aspirin and are positive for Helicobacter pylor...
متن کاملHigher rate of microscopic hematuria in elderly patients who take regular doses of aspirin: Result from AHAP Study
Background: Aspirin is the most widely used drug in medicine for cardiovascular and as recently for its role in cancer prevention. Although the risk of bleeding events increased following regular use of aspirin, little is known about the association of aspirin and hematuria. The present study aimed to evaluate the association of regular aspirin use and microscopic hematuria in elderly. Metho...

The disease is premature in people with familial adenomatous polyposis. Patients suffering from familial adenomatous polyposis have a range of extra-intestinal diseases such as papillae, gastric, small intestine...
متن کاملAspirin for Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer. A Benefit and Harm Analysis
BACKGROUND Aspirin is widely used for prevention of cardiovascular disease. In recent years randomized trials also suggested a preventive effect for various types of cancer. We aimed to assess, in a quantitative way, benefits and harms of aspirin for primary prevention of both cardiovascular disease and cancer for a general US population between 40 and 85 years of age. METHODS We used the Gai...
متن کاملA Systematic Review of Aspirin in Primary Prevention: Is It Time for a New Approach?
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES While evidence in support of aspirin use in secondary prevention is well documented, the role of aspirin in primary prevention remains unclear. We conducted a systematic literature review to evaluate aspirin use in cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer primary prevention, and consider whether aspirin's role is set to become more clearly defined based on past and pros...
متن کاملPrevalence of Aspirin Use among Type 2 Diabetic Patients in Iran
Abstract Objective: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) have a markedly increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. There are some recommendations for prescription of aspirin in these patients. Our purpose was to determine aspirin usage rate in diabetic patients and to compare it in different ages and based upon cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Materials and M...
